16,500 Newly Trained Teachers To Be Recruited In 2020
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister for Education in a press briefing on Tuesday, 2nd June 2020 to update the general public on the President’s directives on reopening of schools for final year students indicated that 16,500 newly trained teachers from Colleges of Education will be recruited in 2020. According to him, a total of 93,724 staff has been hired by the Ghana Education Service between 2017 and 2020.

Trainee Teachers allowance
The Minister in a question posed to him by a Member of the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal News Desk indicated that allowances for trainee teachers are being processed and payment will commence soon. He further clarified that as usually done, the allowances will be paid on semester basis.
Reopening date for Final year Trainee Teachers
The Minister stated that all final year students of Colleges of Education will also return to campus to complete their programme of study. He further indicated that the National Council for Tertiary Education will come out with a road map for the reopening of Colleges of Education for the final year trainees.
Checks conducted by the News Desk confirms that the National Council for Tertiary Education is working with necessary stakeholders to ensure that Colleges are opened safely for the final year trainees to report.
