GES Basic Schools / SHS Reopening Date And Academic Calendar

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released reopening date for Basic Schools / JHS for the and academic year. The Ghana Education Service (GES)  has also officially released Senior High Schools ( SHS ) Academic Calendar for the academic year and reopening date for both single track and double track senior high schools.

The Ghana Education Service announced in its most recent post the SHS reopening date for all sll Senior High Schools ( SHS ) as follows:

  1. Final Year University Students are to  reopen / resume on Monday, June 15
  2. Final Year Senior High School students (SHS 3) are to  reopen / resume on Monday, June 22nd.
  3. Senior High School students (SHS 2) gold track are to  reopen Monday, June 22nd.
  4. Final Year Junior High School (JHS 3) students are to  reopen / resume on Monday, 29th June.

 

What this implies is that reopening date and schedule for all Senior High School ( SHS ) next semester for the academic year are as follows;

  1. Final Year University Students are to  reopen / resume on Monday, June 15

  3. Senior High School students (SHS 2) gold track are to  reopen Monday, June 22nd.

The Ghana Education Service announced in its most recent post the SHS reopening date for all sll Senior High Schools ( SHS ) as follows:

  1. All students are to resume on March 4th except SHS 1 (Form 1) Gold students who will begin their second semester on May 12th.
  2. SHS 3 (Form 3) students will report on March 4th.
  3. SHS 1 and SHS2 (Form 1 & 2 ) Green Track will also report on March 4th.
  4. SHS 1 and SHS2 (Form 1&2) Gold Track, will, however, report on 12th May.
  5. SHS 2 (Form2) Gold Track will resume on March 4th and will be in school until May 8th to complete their first semester. There will be a short break and then resume on May 12th, to resume their second semester which will run straight uninterrupted.

Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to inform staff, students, parents and the general public that all Senior High Schools will go on a semester break from Friday, February 28th until Wednesday, March 4th.
This will mark the end of the semester for all students except for form 2 Gold.Form2 Gold will resume on March 4th and will be in school until May 8th to complete their first semester. There will be a short break and then resume on May 12th to resume their second semester which will run straight uninterrupted.
All students are to resume on March 4th except Form 1 Gold students who will begin their second semester on May 12th.
Dates for the second semester are as follows;
a. Form 3
4th March until they complete their WASSCE in June.
b. Form 1&2 Green
4th March to 8th May
2nd July to 28th August
c. Form 1&2 Gold
12th May to 28th August
Single Track Students who have been in school will also resume on March 4th . However, single track students will enjoy a 2-week break during Easter to allow teachers to rest and enjoy the same number of holidays as all SHS teachers.

GES Academic Calendar for Basic Schools

They are also directed to strictly adhere to the academic calendar for the and academic year. Reopening date for basic schools is Wednesday 8th January for the second semester of the academic year

As disclosed in the GES Director general’s press conference on Thursday 5th September.  By the directive, all schools are required to adhere to the specified dates and strictly adhere to the academic calendar for the academic year and the scheduled timetable.

GES Senior High Schools (SHS ) Academic Calendar 

The GES Senior High Schools SHS Academic Calendar has been officially released by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for single track and double track senior high schools. It announces the reopening date for SHS 1 students ( form 1 ), reopening date for SHS 2 students ( form 2 ) and reopening date for SHS 3 students ( form 3 ).

 

Reopening Date And Schedule For The Second Semester Are As Follows

 

  1. Reopening Date For Form 3

    4th March until they complete their WASSCE in June.

  2. Reopening Date For Form 1&2 Green

    4th March to 8th May, 2nd July to 28th August

  3. Reopening Date For Form 1&2 Gold

    12th May to 28th August

  4. Reopening Date For Single Track Students

    Single Track Students who have been in school will also resume on March 4th. However, single track students will enjoy a 2-week break during Easter to allow teachers to rest and enjoy the same number of holidays as all SHS teachers.

GES Explains The Academic Calendar For Double Track And Single Track Senior High School

The Ghana Education Service has explained the SHS reopening date Academic Calendar For Double Track And Single Track Senior High School in a Facebook post. The communique reads as below;

  1. The basic principle of the GES academic calendar is that every track of students will have 8 months of contact time in a 12 month calendar year.
  2. In the case of the academic calendar, it started September to August.
  3. For Students in both Double-track and single-track schools it is five months: starting January 5th to June 5th. This includes statutory breaks for national holiday and a mid semester break.
  4. For Double-track schools, each track of students will have their 8 months of schooling by the end of august.
  5. First semester for SHS 2 ( form 2 ) Gold track ends on May 8th while Second Semester for SHS 2 ( form 2 ) Gold Track students starts from May 12th to August 28th
  6. Form2 Gold track Calendar allows for uninterrupted period of academic work for form 3 students on both single and Double track schools to prepare for their final examination till june 4th (end of WASSCE)
