The Official Statement

The official statement reads as follows:

” Trainee teachers across the 46 public Colleges of Education in the country have been anxious for the results of their first semester examinations which were taken in February 2020. However, it appears the anxiety in seeing the results will extend a bit longer due to the emergence of the novel Coronavirus in the country.

Speaking exclusively to the News Desk of the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal, the Director of the Institute of Education of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Christine Adu – Yeboah, expressed her outfit’s displeasure at the turn of events due to the emergence of the COVID – 19.

The revered Professor further explained that, “we had arranged to hold a professional board meeting to review the results of students before they are released. Unfortunately for us, that was the period all institutions were instructed to close down due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Checks with the other four universities which other Colleges of Education are affiliated to also reveal the same situation.

Continuing students in Level 100 and 200 numbering over 30,000 across the 46 public Colleges of Education sat for the examinations. Level 100 trainee teachers in all Colleges of Education wrote the examinations from the 5 affiliate public universities while all Level 200 trainee teachers wrote theirs from the University of Cape Coast.

All Colleges of Education were expected to reopen and start academic work on Monday, 16th March, 2020. However, due to the emergence of the COVID – 19 in the country, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo directed all educational institutions to close down until further notice. This made it impossible for Colleges of Education to welcome trainee teachers for academic work to commence for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.

Colleges of Education in partnership with their affiliate universities are currently working on undertaking online lectures and assessment for trainee teachers in order to make use of the current times we find ourselves.
