Details: Nursing and Midwifery Council Disclaimer Against Payments

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has officially issued a disclaimer against the payments to invigilators to influence the supervision. The official statement reads as follows:

At the Stakeholders meeting to evaluate the NICHE-261 Online Examination Project in 2019 in Accra, the Representation of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainee Association(GNMTA) alleged that candidates of the licensing examinations conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council contributed monies for invigilators under the pretext of influencing the supervision.

The council wishes to state unequivocally that it is unaware of these developments and has not authorized any Chief invigilator or invigilator to either collect money or arrive at any monetary arrangements with Candidates in return for any sort of undue favour relating to the supervision and conduct of licensing examination.

It should be pointed out that, prior to conducting any licensing examination, the Council provides an orientation to invigilators, spelling out their duties and what is expected of them during the invigilation.

The Council will not hesitate to sanction any Chief invigilator, invigilator or candidate who undertakes a secret agreement or cooperation for an illegal or deceitful purpose to gain undue advantage before, during and after the Licensing Examination. Sanctions for collusion are clearly spell out in section 2 of the Rules and Regulations for dealing with Licensing Examination irregularities.

The council for the past almost 50 years has conducted credible licensing examination with the support of the Training Institution and will continue to exercise its mandate by protecting the highest standards of integrity, quality and fairness in the conduct of the licensing examination.

The Council respectfully calls on all Principles and Heads of Departments of Nursing and Midwifery training to collaborate with the council to safeguard the integrity of the licensing examinations and certificates awarded.

The nursing and midwifery council distances itself from any form of examination malpractices, will not be responsible for these acts and will not shield anyone who is involved in such dishonest acts.
