About French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians

Within the framework of academic cooperation and student mobility between France and Ghana, the Embassy of France in Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, is pleased to announce the second edition of the joint scholarship programme for the next academic year. The applications are now open for Ghanaians at Master’s and PhD levels on a merit and needs basis.

 

French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must be of Ghanaian Nationality.
  2. Age limit: Master’s Degree = 35 years; PhD = 40 years for joint application, 45 years for ScholSec application alone.
  3. Applicants with First Class or Second Class Upper on their Degree will be given priority consideration.
  4. Mastery of French: French Proficiency is not a requirement for application.
  5. For Master’s Degree students who speak little or no French at all, can apply to a wide-range of programmes taught in English by various French Universities.
  6. For PhDs, candidates can do their research and write their thesis in English.
  7. Nonetheless, mastering of French Language would be an asset.

  2. 2 years Master’s degree or MPhil Degree for a PhD.
  3. Fields of Study: French as a foreign language, STEM, Health, Environment and Sustainable Development, Tourism, Archaeology and Heritage studies, Agriculture and Food Industry.
  4. First Class or Second Class Upper applicants on their Degree will be given priority consideration.
  5. Mastery of French: French Proficiency is not a requirement for application (except for French as a Foreign Language).
  6. Preferably 2 years post qualification experience for PhD applicants
    Completed National Service.

French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Application Form – Procedures

  1. Interested and qualified applicants should download the French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Application form here: French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians
  2. Then fill the application form with required details by typing
  3. Then Include the required documents outlined below
  4. Applicants are required to submit hard and soft copies of their application forms before 17:00 GMT on 28th March 2021.
  5. Soft Copy: Applications must only be sent once to a common email address: [email protected].
  6. The subject of the message should include the first name and SURNAME of the applicant.
  7. Hard Copy: Applications must be sent or deposited to the Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Department (SCAC) at the French Embassy in Ghana, Fourth Circular Road, Cantonments, Accra, P. O. Box 187 Accra. As well as the Scholarship Secretariat office at – Hilla Limann Highway, near Accra High School, P.O. Box. M 75 Accra
  8. An acknowledgement of receipt of a complete application (hard and soft copy) will be sent to applicants via email.
  9. In the case where only one format of the application has been received, the application will be considered incomplete and shall not be considered for selection.

French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Required Documents

The application file should contain the following:

  1. Copy of birth certificate.
  2. Application form to be downloaded and filled (typed) (Link)
  3. Cover letter of the student (maximum of 1 page) detailing the student’s motivation and highlighting how the desired course will support the student’s career development.
  4. Reference Letter from your University
  5. Academic file: Copies of full academic transcripts and degrees
  6. Proof of Registration or pre-registration with a French university for a master’s degree or a PhD.
  7. For applicants to PhD, kindly attach your research topic as well as an acceptance letter from your PhD supervisor in France
  8. Detailed Curriculum Vitae
  9. Documents describing the financial situation of the applicant (certificate of scholarship for studies in progress, pay slips, or bank statements of students or parents)

 

French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Selection process

  1. The selection process will be done jointly by the French Embassy and the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
    The selection process is as follows:
  2. Review of eligible applications (February-March 2021)
    Screening of selected candidates (April 2021)
  3. Interview with selected candidates (April 2021)
  4. Publication of the list of successful candidates (early May 2021)
    The response received for a double application can be fully successful, partially successful, or completely refused, according to the following table:

  1. Applicants are required to submit both hard and soft copies of their application file before 17:00 GMT on 28th March.

 

French Embassy Scholarship For Ghanaians Shortlist – Selected Applicants

  1. A selection committee will examine only complete applications.
  2. Pre-selected applicants will be invited for an interview in the month of April before final selection.
  3. The list of selected applicants will be published on the French Embassy’s website www.ambafrance-gh.org, in May.
  4. Successful applicants will also be informed by mail.

Scope Of The French Embassy Scholarships For Ghanaians

Details of Proposed Scholarships

For Master’s Degree Scholarship Applicants, ‘Co-shared’ Scholarships:
Duration and Benefits:

  1. 24 months of Scholarship over a 2-year period including:
    One (1) return ticket to France
    Free Visa
  2. Free basic registration fees to an institution of higher education in France up to a maximum of €5,000 per year
  3. Social Security Coverage
  4. Partial monthly stipend (remaining amount to be taken in charge by the student = Approximately €300/month)
  5. 1 : allowance adapted to the duration of the programme followed.
  6. For PhD Scholarship Applicants, ‘Co-shared’ Scholarships:
  7. Duration and Benefits:
  8. Three (3) stays in France of six (6) months each, over a three-year period including: Three (3) return tickets to France (One (1) for each stay), Free Visa
  9. Free basic registration fees to an institution of higher education in France up to a maximum of €5,000 per year
    Social Security Coverage
  10. Partial monthly stipend (remaining amount to be taken in charge by the student = Approximately €500/month)
  11. Note: None of these benefits represents a full scholarship nor completely covers the total expenditure involved.
  12. For the purposes of obtaining a student visa, selected candidates will have to provide proof of additional sources of revenue of a minimum of 615 euros per month, part of which may be covered by the scholarship.
