Overview

The Ashesi Education Collaborative is Ashesi’s key scaling initiative. It is the main vehicle to facilitate the scaling of the university’s impact across the continent. The aim is to transform the systems and improve the student, institutional, and regulatory outcomes of higher education in Africa. It does this through collaborative partnerships, direct mentorships, and resource sharing across higher education stakeholders on the continent.

The Communications & PR Coordinator is responsible for the overall brand and communications strategy of the initiative both internally and externally in Africa and the Globe. S/he leads the curating and development of content consistent with the Ashesi University and Education Collaborative brand and image.

 

Reports to: The Director, Education Collaborative

 

Leadership role

  • Oversight on ensuring a consistent public image of the initiative. Serving as external and public relations contact
  • Liaise with Ashesi University’s public relations department to ensure brand fit and consistency
  • Manage all communications in and out of the office. Including liaising with and reporting to board and other stakeholders
  • Recommend the implementation plan and communications goals for the various stakeholders of the initiative including: funders, Ashesi University and boards, and social media audience
  • Develop and manage communications timelines and monitoring and evaluation framework and feedback loops
  • Coordinate communications flow to and from universities across the continent

 

Administrative

  • Manage administrative and communications interns and stakeholders including all vendors and developers
  • Manage all brand elements and outputs used in all communications, including in emails, marketing, speeches, presentations, announcements, manuscripts, and publications to ensure consistency with brand
  • Manage the communications outlets: Website, LMS, Mailchimp, Social media, Main email account
  • Set yearly, quarterly, and weekly goals and targets in meeting with the director, and coordinate with communications team
  • Manage the preparation, and submission of the unit’s budget, fund requests, and financial reporting
  • Any additional assignments by the Director as relates to the role

 

Qualifications and Skill Sets

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
  • Wordsmith with experience in creative writing
  • Has experience with digital marketing and search engine optimization, as well as social media management, and digital marketing design tools like Canva or Photoshop
  • Passionate about Africa and education development
  • Wide reader with curating and basic research skills
  • Confidence in leading self and others, has evidence of teamwork skills and taking initiative
  • Ability to maintain strategic focus while managing multiple interests of stakeholders
  • Good relationship management skills
