KNUST appoints Professor Charles Ofosu Marfo as Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Professor Charles Ofosu Marfo has been appointed Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), with effect from 1st August 2020.
He is currently the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Language and Communication Sciences.
He is also the National and KNUST Chapter President of the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG), and the immediate past President of the Linguistics Association of Ghana (LAG).
Prof. Marfo obtained Ph.D. in Linguistics, specialising in Theoretical Linguistics, particularly in Phonology and Morphosyntax and their interfaces from the University of Hong Kong, M.Phil. in Theoretical Linguistics from the University of Tromsø, Norway and B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Ghana, Legon-Accra.
Prof. Marfo has been a visiting Scholar at the University of Hong Kong and the Potsdam University, Brandenburg, in Germany.
Prof. Marfo is currently a member of the University Council, Academic Board, Development Committee, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee, Faculty of Social Sciences Board, College Appointment and Promotions Committee, College of Art and Built Environment Board and CAPC, Academic Board Representative for KESSBEN University College, Wisconsin International University College; School of Graduate Studies Board, Department of Language and Communication Sciences Board and the GUSSS Management Board.
He is also the Chairman of the Undergraduate Admissions Committee of KNUST.
Additionally, he chairs the Board of the House of Faith Credit Union (HoFCU), Linguistics Association of Ghana, Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School and Royal Image Broadcasting Network (which includes Royal TV).
He has also served as an external assessor to External examination of thesis, University of Ghana and University of Education (UEW); Promotion, HTU; and the Department of English, KNUST.
He has reviewed Journals of West Africa Languages, Africa Today, African Studies Review, Legon Journal of Humanities, Ghana Journal of Linguistics and Concentric: Studies in Linguistics, European Scientific Journal.
Professor Charles Marfo has about 40 publications to his credit, including books and journals and has attracted Twenty Thousand US Dollars (USD 20,000) funded by the University of Ghana Research Grant for the Akan Verbs Database and €5,179.550.71 by European Developing Countries Trial Partnership (EDCTP) for the THECA-TYVEGHA Project (2019-2022).
