About The Admission Forms For All Colleges Of Education In Ghana

The Admission Forms For All Colleges Of Education In Ghana was released and announced in the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal and the Daily Graphic news paper on Monday, 16th March 2020. Applications has subsequently begun from now till Friday, 31st July, 2020.

The forty-six (46) Public Colleges Of Education in Ghana , formerly Teacher Training Colleges , were upgraded to the status of Colleges of Education in 2012, by the Colleges of Education Act (Act 847) which was passed to give legal backing to the conversion of Teacher Training Colleges to Colleges of Education which were then placed under the control of the National Council for Tertiary Education, the government agency responsible for the regulation of tertiary education institutions.

All public Colleges of Education are now upgraded to the status of University Colleges and now offer a four-year Bachelor of Education degree with effect from the 2018 / 2019 academic year, as part of efforts to improve the quality of teacher training in Ghana.

Prior to this, teachers who completed the three-year Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) at the College of Education had to later do a two-year top-up first degree by distance learning at the University of Cape Coast .

With the introduction of the new 4-year Bachelor of Education degree prograamme, you would now obtain your first degree at the end of the 4-year college degree programme to ensure that you enter the teaching service with a degree and with an increase in your earning capacity,

What this means is the old programs offered at the forty-six (46) Public Colleges Of Education in Ghana are deprecated. The current College Of Education programmes (Courses) on offer for admission are B.Ed. Early Grade Education, B.Ed. Primary Education and B.Ed. JHS Education.
