In an audio circulating on whatsapp purported to be an interview with Mr. Ekow Vincent, Director of Communications of the Ministry of Education on OK fm. The Director of Communications made it clear that the current GES postings are for college of education graduates and not University Graduates.
He went on to state that GES is not obliged to post university graduates with certificate in basic education or early childhood education or any other university graduates that attended University of Education Winneba or University of Cape Coast.
He further stated that, they are not obliged to recruit any University graduate at any point in time and that they will be recruited as and when there are vacancies and resources are made available by the ministry of finance.
Meanwhile 2018 college of education students who were not captured in the postings are to head to their respective regional offices to fill a form.
This comes after the release of postings for teachers on 21st November 2019. A total of 14,500 postings of teachers from the 46 Colleges of Education in Ghana has been released.
The release of the postings came with grievances from College of Education trainees who despite having met all the requirements have still not been posted.
And statements started going rounds that the postings of graduates with degree in early childhood and Basic Education holders are being worked on, with an official notice made by the GES stating that University graduates who offered B.ed and Early childhood would be recruited,
Here Is The Audio From The Interview
Excerpts From The Interview
Here are excerpts of statements made by the Director during the interview:
I would like to hear a complain from someone who completed college of education in 2018, who has done the mandatory national service and written the licensure exams and says the government did not emlpoy him or her, and that is something i would want to talk about.
But for those who graduated from the Universities, the Government is not under any obligation to post such persons. But as of when there are vacancies and resources available, then government will also engage the services of those teachers.
So the way forward, there has been limited recruitment a couple of times and that should give them hope that very soon there will be such an arrangement to recruit such people.
The current postings were for about 14500 college of education graduates that had met all the pre requisite for recruitment.
When we refer to colleges of education, University of Education Winneba, University of Cape Coast are all not part.
When we did the double track recruitment, Colleges of Education graduates where not part and University graduates where quite. We do these recruitment with government approval and when resources are made available by the ministry of finance. So the current recruitment is strictly for college of education graduates.
When referred to the official notice by the GES stating that University graduates who offered B.ed and Early childhood would be recruited, he replied:
We all know that college graduates are few as such we had wanted to consider University graduates who offered B.ed and Early childhood who applied, if need be to fill the vacancies. But that does not mean we are obliged to post them.
We are supposed poste based on availability, based on space and based on resources that are also there.
