When Will The E Levy Take Effect

  • The E Levy will take effect in Ghana in May 2022 onwards
  • Th Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in collaboration with the telecommunication networks namely MTN, Vodaphone and Airtel Tigo 聽will be responsible for the collection of the E levy for the Government of Ghana

When Is E Levy Starting In Ghana

  • The E Levy starts from 1st May 2022 onwards
  • This means all Mobile Money transfers from May 2022 onwards will attract a charge of 1.5% the amount being transferred in addition to a 0.75% service charge by the telecom networks as shown in the chart below

E Levy Chart For Mobile Money

  • A 1.5% tax is deducted from a Mobile money account whenever the money being transferred exceeds GH垄100 as displayed in the e levy chart above
  • The E Levy Charges shown in the Chart does not affect mobile money transfers of GH垄100 or less made by one person in a single day

 

E Levy Charges On Mobile Money

  1. 1.5% tax will be deducted from Money Transfers from your Mobile Money account to the recipient on another account
  2. 1.5% tax will be deducted from your Mobile Money Transfers from your bank account to another mobile money account
  3. 1.5% tax will be deducted from your Mobile Money Transactions from other mobile money accounts to your bank accounts

How To Avoid Paying E Levy

  1. Send an amount of GHS100 a day to your recipient Mobile Money account until you have exhausted the total amount you want to send.
  2. You can send an amount of GHS 3,000 every month, example if you want to send GHS 3000 a month to someone, just send GHS100 a day, everyday until she receives GHS 3000, then the person can go and cash out.
  3. Use cash instead of Mobile Money transfers for huge payments
  4. Make Payments With Cheques for big payments instead of Mobile Money Transfers
