About The Previous Reopening Of The SHS School Placement
The Ghana Education Service (GES) initially reopened the Self-Placement Portal for a Second Chance of SHS School Placement on 11th September 2019.
A total of 122,706 candidates who qualified to enter the senior high schools, technical and vocational institutions but have not been placed, were given the chance to do self-placement.
By this system, a candidate who missed out on the placement under the Computerised School Selections Placement System (CSSPS) and is required to go to the self-placement platform on the cssps.gov.gh or cssps.org to select his or her preferred school from a list of schools provided.
The Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Cassandra Twum Ampofo, who spoke to the Daily Graphic explained that there were enough vacancies to be filled by all the candidates.
She was speaking on the aftermath of the placement of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates under the CSSPS in Accra yesterday (Monday September 9).
Candidates placed
A total of 490,000 candidates were expected to be placed, but 473,728 candidates qualified to be placed.
Explaining the differences, Ms Ampofo said the number was reduced to the 473,728 because some of the candidates, even though they scored good grades, had grade nine in either Mathematics or English Language.
She said in a situation such as that, the affected candidate would be required to go back and rewrite those subjects in order to qualify them to be placed.
Disqualified
Ms Ampofo said a total of 38,355 of the candidates were disqualified because they got grade nine in Mathematics or English or both and that disqualified them from being placed.
She explained that just as what happened last year, all those who were disqualified would be sponsored by the government to rewrite those papers and would not be required to pay for the resit.
She, therefore, called on all those who had grade nine in either English or Mathematics or whose grades were such that they could not be placed, to take advantage of the opportunity to go back to their former schools and get enrolled for the BECE next year.
Breakdown
Giving a breakdown of the placement of candidates under the CSSPS, Ms Ampofo said 83,053 of the candidates were placed in the single-track schools.
She said 138,053 were placed in the Green Track, while 129,916 of them were placed in the Gold Track, thus bringing the total number of candidates placed so far to 351,022, out of the 473,728.
Solution Centres
Ms Ampofo explained that those who had challenges with the placement exercise could visit the nearest solution centre to get their concerns addressed.
She said a total of ten such centres had been set up throughout the country to address the concerns of people so they need not to travel to Accra to get their concerns addressed.
In Accra, the solution centre is at the Black Star Square, in the Volta and Oti regions, the centre is at Mawuli, while in the Ashanti Region, it is located at the Kumasi Technical Institute.
Others are in the Bono, Bono East, and the Ahafo regions, with the centre at the GES regional office in Sunyani, while the Western and the Western North, it is at the GES regional office in Takoradi.
In the Central Region, the centre is located at the GES regional office, Cape Coast, while the Eastern, Upper West and Upper East, have their centres at the GES regional offices of Koforidua, Wa and Bolgatanga. The centre for the Northern, North East and Savanna is located at the GES Office in Tamale.
