  • The Extension Of Sim Card Registration is meant to promote the responsible use of SIM and to halt the abuses of scammers and criminals.
  • President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Oct. 10, 2022 passed the first law that aims at fighting scams being made through text and online messages.
  • On Dec. 27, 2022, the 180-day SIM registration was initiated and was supposed to end on April 26, 2023 however it has been extended by 90 days to July 25th 2023.

  • Lawmakers have considered the Extension Of Sim Card Registration period beyond the initial 180 days to accommodate all users.

  • The SIM card Registration, which started on December 27th, 2022, is extended to July 25th, 2023
  • The initial SIM Card Registration Deadline was scheduled from December 27th, 2022 to April 26th 2023, however the SIM Registration Deadline has been extended by another 90 days to the new Deadline of July 25th, 2023.

 

Extension Of Sim Card Registration – Restrictions

  • After April 26th 2023, subscribers will have limited access to services until they finally register their SIM cards.
  • Those who do not register in the next 90 days will have most telecom services restricted by to the extent that they may not be able to use social media
  • Note that SIMs will be available in local retailers and stores even past the SIM Registration deadline.
  • Users will be required to register first before they can activate their new SIMs when purchased

  • National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) data released on April 23rd 2023, indicates that about 82,845,397, representing 49.31 percent of SIM cards have been registered.
  • The breakdown are as follows:
    DITO: 5,796,175 or 38.73 percent
    Globe: 37,099,437 or 42.77 percent
    SMART: 39,949,785 or 60.25 percent
