The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) is searching for a highly qualified, experienced, and forward-thinking professional to take on the role of General Secretary (CEO).

The ideal candidate should be innovative, proactive, and possess excellent communication skills, with a deep understanding of local governance and decentralization in Ghana.

 

Job Vacancy: General Secretary 

Organization: National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG)
Location: Accra
Salary: Negotiable with additional benefits

 

Key Responsibilities

The General Secretary will:

  • Lead the National Secretariat, ensuring the effective implementation of NALAG’s programs under the President’s direction.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and administration of the Association.
  • Execute decisions made by the National Delegates Conference (NALAG’s highest decision-making body) and the National Executive Council (policy-formulating body).
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the effective utilization and management of the Association’s resources.
  • Oversee financial planning, management, and accountability.
  • Act as the official representative of NALAG in media, policy discussions, and public forums to promote local governance and decentralization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the National Executive Council.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • A postgraduate degree or diploma in Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • At least five (5) years of managerial experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and human relations skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and direct an administrative secretariat efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in local governance and decentralization in Ghana.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with donor agencies and NGOs.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, internet use, and office software.
