• UNICEF, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the National Population Commission (NPC) have come together to implement a Digitalized Birth Registration program in Nigeria. This joint effort aims to enhance the process of birth registration in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria.
• To register 12.7 million births in 2024, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the National Population Commission (NPC) have enlisted the support of NYSC. This initiative involves the issuance of birth certificates for children below the age of 5, including their names and nationality. The registration process will span 21 states, covering 456 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 4,978 wards across the country.
• The main objective of this partnership is to extend the benefits of birth registration to a minimum of 12 million children under the age of 5 in Nigeria. The terms of this collaboration are centered around achieving this goal.

1. NYSC will post 850 corps members as coordinators and supervisors
2. NPC will recruit additional ad hoc birth registrars at the ward level
3. While UNICEF will provide technical expertise as well as support for data collection and analysis.
