Process Technician at Newmont Mining Corporation

Perform troubleshooting, replacement, repair, testing, and maintenance of mechanical equipment in compliance with relevant codes and standards to ensure optimal plant operation and production.

 

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Implement and adhere to Newmont’s health and safety protocols and environmental policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, particularly tools and equipment.
  • Engage in daily safety leadership initiatives and ensure safety measures are followed.
  • Identify and address potential electrical hazards to prevent accidents.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and contribute to hazard elimination.

Maintenance and Machining Operations

  • Operate various machine tools to repair or fabricate components for industrial machinery.
  • Leverage expertise in mechanics, metal properties, and machining processes to perform precise tasks.
  • Diagnose equipment issues through observation and auditory inspection to determine necessary repairs.
  • Utilize technical drawings and specifications to prepare materials and determine required dimensions.
  • Mark and measure metal surfaces using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and rulers.
  • Disassemble equipment to identify defects, replacing or repairing components as necessary.
  • Operate equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and shaping machines for part fabrication.
  • Conduct tests on repaired machinery to confirm operational functionality.
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as lubricating machinery and safely using hand and electrical tools.

 

Specific Maintenance Tasks

  • Repair and maintain conveyor systems and accessories.
  • Disassemble and repair gearboxes.
  • Rebuild and install cyclones.
  • Conduct servicing of overhead cranes.
  • Repair heat exchangers and related components.
  • Inspect and repair agitator systems.

 

Reporting and Documentation

  • Keep detailed records of machining activities.
  • Prepare reports on field observations to support future planning and maintenance schedules.
  • Submit daily progress reports to the Mechanical Supervisor.

 

Problem-Solving and Task Management

  • Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical issues to identify solutions within OEM and local standards.
  • Plan and prioritize daily work assignments to meet objectives effectively.
  • Coordinate with other technicians and support services for task execution.

 

Support and Continuous Improvement

  • Assist the Mechanical Supervisor in optimizing plant performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs to enhance plant operations.
  • Contribute to the development of Standard Task Procedures (STPs) and understand production targets.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or relevant certification in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3–4 years’ experience in a mining or similar process plant environment.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of maintenance principles and industry standards.
  • Proficient in planning, scheduling, and using hand and power tools.
  • Analytical problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
  • Competence in operating machines such as milling machines, lathes, and radial drills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications like SAP, MS Word, and Outlook.
