UTAG Strike Update Today

As revealed by Ranking member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the Universities Teachers Association (UTAG) has agreed in to call off their strike.

This comes after a meeting with UTAG, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, the Education Committee and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission.

The Labour Division of the Accra High Court had earlier placed an interlocutory injunction against the strike by UTAG.

UTAG Strike Update Today – UTAG Agrees To Call Of Strike After Meeting Education Committee Of Parliament

  • The Ranking member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe made it known with the statement:
  • ”After listening to the cases, we realized that there will be the need for more dialogue. We finally appealed as a committee to UTAG to call off the strike which they agreed in Principle. We expect they call off the strike today and then continue with the negotiations”
  • After the meeting, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Bright Wireku Brobbey is hopeful that the government was expecting that the unions did the needful. This was also made known with the statement:
  • “In the spirit of transparency and very mutual respect for them, they have assured them that whatever allowance is due them because they were captured in the 2022 budget [by] January they are going to be paid,” “Therefore, the Commission has directed that they go and call off the strike immediately”
  • UTAG has consequently called off the strike to engage government further following intervention of the education committee.
