• The GES in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has released the Academic Year Calendar for Senior High School (SHS), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Basic Schools for the next academic year.

About 2024 SHS Academic Calendar

• Due to the start of the calendar in January 2023, SHS 3 will not enjoy a prolonged
  break. This is to allow SHS 1 and SHS 2 to be in school as well.
• This means that the calendar will have to be fine-tuned so that SHS 3 students can attend class continuously from January 2023 to the end of September 2023, when the WASSCE ends.
• In the transitional option, two (2) of the three (3) year groups must be in school at a given time.
• Colleges of Education have received an increase in their schools’ enrolment as a result of the Free Senior High School programme which required short term solution.
• The 2023 academic calendar ensures that teachers get a break.

SHS 1st Semester Academic Calendar

SHS 1st Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 & Form 2 students will reopen on 9th January, 2023
• Form 3 will go on break on 17th February, 2023
• Form 2 will go on break on 9th March, 2023.
• Form 1 students will reopen on 20th February, 2023 and break on 21st April, 2023.

SHS 1st Semester Break

• Form 3 & Form 2 students will go on break from 18th February, 2023 to 12th March, 2023
• Form 1 students will break go on break from 22nd April, 2023 to 18th June, 2023.

Back From 1st Semester Break For SHS

• Form 3 students will resume from break on 13th March, 2023 and end the Semester on 2nd June, 2023.
• Form 2 students will resume from break on 24th April, 2023 and end the Semester on 2nd June, 2023.
• Form 2 students will resume from break on 19th June and end the Semester on 4th August, 2023.

SHS 1st Semester Vacation Date

• Form 3 students will go on vacation from 3rd June, 2023 to 18th June, 2023.
• Form 2 students will go on vacation from 3rd June, 2023 to 6th August, 2023.
• Form 1 students will go on vacation from 5th August, 2023 to 1st October, 2023.

SHS 2nd Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 students will reopen on 19th June, 2023 and end the Semester on 28th September, 2023.
• Form 2 students will reopen on 7th August, 2023 and end the Semester on 22nd December, 2023.
• Form 1 students will reopen on 2nd October, 2023 and end the Semester on 22nd December, 2023.

SHS Single Track Academic Calendar

SHS Single Track 1st Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 & 2 students will reopen on 1st Semester on 9th January, 2023 and be in school up to 11th May, 2023.
• Form 1 students will reopen on 20th January, 2023 and be in school up to 11th May, 2023.

SHS Single Track 1st Semester Vacation Date

• Form 1, 2, 3 will go on vacation from 12th May, 2023 through to 5th June, 2023.

SHS Single Track 2nd Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 2nd Semester will commence on 5th June, 2023 and end on 29th September, 2023
• Form 2 2nd Semester will commence on 5th June, 2023 and end on 9th October, 2023.
• Form 1 2nd Semester will commence on 5th June, 2023 and end on 10th November, 2023.

SHS Single Track 2nd Semester Vacation Date

• Form 1, 2, 3 will vacate on 5th June, 2023

SHS Double Track  Academic Calendar

• There will be no Double Track for grade level, however, only two year group of the three cohorts of students will be in school at any period in time for the 2023.

2024 WASSCE Date

When Will 2024 WASSCE Start

• WASSCE 2023 will start from August 2023 to September 2023.

2024 Academic Calendar For Basic Schools

2024 Academic Calendar For JHS, Primary and KG 

•  JHS, Primary and KG will spend 14 weeks each for 1st and 2nd Terms while 3rd Term will be 12 weeks

Basic Schools 1st Term Reopening Date

• Basic Schools will resume on 10th January, 2023 and be in school up to 20th April, 2023.

Basic Schools 1st Term Vacation Date

• Vacation for 1st term starts from 21st April through to 1st May, 2023.

Basic Schools 2nd Term Reopening Date

• Basic Schools will resume on 2nd May, 2023 and be in school up to 9th August, 2023.

Basic Schools 2nd Term Vacation Date

• Vacation for the 2nd term will commence from 10th August, 2023

Basic Schools 3rd Term Reopening Date

• Basic Schools will resume on 22nd August, 2023 and be in school up to 16th November, 2023.

Basic Schools 3rd Term Vacation Date

• Vacation for the 3rd term will commence from 17th November, 2023

2024 Academic Calendar Contact Hours

SHS Academic Calendar Contact Hours

• Form 3 students will spend 34 weeks thus 162 days in school with up to 1,360 total contact hours.
• The Form 2 students will spend 33 weeks thus 166 days in school with up to 1,320 contact hours.
• The Form 1 students will spend 27 weeks thus 137 days in school with up to 1,080 contact hours.

SHS Single Track Academic Calendar Contact Hours

• Form 3 students will spend 34 weeks in school with 1,360 total contact hours.
• The Form 2 students will spend 34 weeks in school with 1,360 total contact hours.
• The Form 1 students will spend 34 weeks in school with 1,360 total contact hours.
