Understanding The Structure Of The New GES JHS, SHS Syllabus ( NaCCA Curriculum )

Here are some critical features of the common Core Program ( CCP) in the the new Educational reform

  1. Strands are the broad areas/sections of the subject content to be studied.
  2. Sub-strands are the topics within each strand under  which the content is organised.
  3. Content standard refers to the pre-determined level of knowledge, skill and/or attitude that a learner attains by a set stage of education.
  4. Indicator is a clear outcome or milestone that learners have to exhibit in each year to meet the content standard expectation. The indicators represent the minimum expected standard in a year.
  5. Exemplar: Support and guidance, which clearly explains the expected outcomes of an indicator and suggests what teaching and learning activities could take, to support the facilitators/teachers in the delivery of the NaCCA curriculum

Understanding The Common Core Programme (CCP)

  1. The Common Core Programme (CCP) is a 4-yr programme comprising of 9 subjects which are; Maths, languages, Science (embodying both the Natural and Applied Sciences), RME, Physical and Health Education, Career technology, Social studies, computing, creative arts and design.
  2. The CCP is a standard-based curriculum that seeks to develop the 6 key competencies of leaning such as critical thinking and problem solving in learners.
  3. The CCP took off in September, 2020.
  4. NSAT will be conducted in JHS 2 to generate data for improvement at all levels of management and implementation. (NB: NSAT is an assessment, NOT an examination).
  5. Placement exams into SHS will be conducted at the end of JHS 3; however, the mode and format is likely to change to reflect the CCP demands.
  6. Before SHS 2, students take Common Core Exams to guide them in choosing a combination of courses for High School Diploma Programmes (HSDP) or Career-related programmes (CRP).
  7. From SHS 2 -3, students decide either to pursue career-related programme or an academic one, or both.
  8. Project work, community service and engagements will be integrated as part of a comprehensive learner assessment that emphasizes DOING.

  1. Why are we Arabic and not Hausa, Wolof or Sawahili ? the AU has just signed a treaty to trade among itself which in theory is a good thing, so why are we not implementing this by teaching future generations more African languages so we can easily trade among ourselves and be independent of the Global North.

  2. When will the training for JHS teachers on the new core curriculum take place. What are we to teach the JHS 1 students after the mid semester break

  3. Please what is the period allocation for the following subjects in NACCA curriculum
    1 English
    2. Maths
    3. Creative Arts and Design
    4. Social Studies
    5. French
    6. Ghanaian language
    7. Career Technology
    8. Health and physical Education
    9. Computing
    10. R.M.E
    11. Science

  4. Please can u help me with de preparation of daily lesson plan from week 4 to 12?

  5. Are the text books ready for the programme or teachers will have to use the syllabus as the basic 1 to 6 are doing now.

  6. Thus that mean ,there is not going to be any end of term examination ????
