GES Academic Calendar 2025/2026

Access the GES Academic Calendar 2025 for SHS, JHS and basic schools in this article. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for the 2025 school year for Basic and Senior High Schools. The academic year for all Senior High Schools commenced on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024.

Current First-Year students in Transitional Calendar Schools concluded their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, October 28th, 2024, and were promoted to Form Two, starting the new academic year immediately.

Newly admitted First-Year students in both Single Track and Transitional Schools also begun classes on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024. Continuing students in Single Track Schools returned on the same date.

This reopening schedule is designed to align the academic calendar to start in September each year and allow final-year students to take their 2025/2026 WASSCE in May/June. The 2025/2026 academic calendar for Basic and Senior High Schools is attached below.

New GES Transitional Academic Calendar

SHS 1st Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 students reopen on 3rd January, 2025 and be in school till 16th April, 2025
• Form 2 students reopen on 30th October, 2024 and be in school till 5th December, 2024
• Form 1 students reopen on 30th October, 2024 and be in school till 7th February, 2025

SHS 1st Semester Vacation / Break

• Form 3 students will go on break from 17th April, 2025 To 22nd April, 2025
• Form 2 students will go on break from 6th December, 2024 To 9th February, 2025
• Form 1 students will go on break from 8th February, 2025 To 25th May, 2025

SHS 2nd Semester Reopening Date

• Form 3 students will reopen on 23rd April, 2025 and be in school till 29th August 2025
• Form 2 students will reopen on 10th February, 2025 and be in school till 23rd May2025
• Form 1 students will reopen on 26^th May, 2025 and be in school till 25^th July, 2025

SHS 2nd Semester Vacation / Break

• Form 2 students will go on break from 24^th May, 2025 To 27^th July 2025
• Form 1 students will go on break from 26^th July, 2025 To 30^th August 2025

Back From 2nd Semester Break / Vacation For SHS

• Form 2 students will reopen on 28^th July, 2025 and be in school till 17^th October, 2025
• Form 1 students will reopen on 31^st August 2025 and be in school till 17^th October, 2025

• Form 3 students reopen on 30th October, 2024 and be in school till 5th March, 2025

• Form 3 will go on break from 6th March, 2025 To 29th March, 2025
