General Admission Requirements

WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants:

  1. Applicant must have CREDITS in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science)
  2. CREDITS in THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or its equivalent relevant to the chosen Programme with aggregate 24 or better (WASSCE: A1-C6/SSSCE A-D).

 

General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Applicants

  1. Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects including English Language and passes in THREE Elective Subjects including Business Mathematics.

 

GCE/IGCSE (CAMBRIDGE) ‘A’ & ‘O’LEVELS/Mature Applicants:

  1. Applicants must have FIVE credits at the GCE/IGCSE O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics (or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least THREE (3) subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits in the case of mature applicants. In addition, the applicant must fulfill the appropriate Faculty or Departmental requirements.

 

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE):

  1. Applicants must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects plus THREE (3) Optional Subjects relevant to the Programme of study.

 

International Baccalaureate Holders

  1. International Baccalaureate holders should have a minimum of grade 4 at the Higher Level (HL) in Three (3) Subjects relevant to the Programme of choice and minimum of grade 5 in Chemistry for Health and Allied Sciences.
  2. For Engineering at least, grade 5 at the Higher level (HL) in Mathematics.
  3. In addition, one must have a minimum of grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics at the Standard Level (SL) and at least grade C in a Science subject at the IGCSE. Applicants from French speaking Countries must provide a minimum of one year English Proficiency Certificate.

Admission Requirements For BSc. BIOCHEMISTRY

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: For all the Programmes, credits in the THREE (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) are required. Credits in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including: Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
  2. Higher National Diploma (HND) Applicants: HND applicants in a science related Programme from a recognized polytechnic with Second Class (Upper Division) and (Lower Division) may be admitted to Third Year and Second Year of the Programme respectively after a successful entrance examination. Such applicants must also satisfy the university’s general admission requirement for degree Programmes.

 

Admission Requirements For BSc. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: For all the Programmes, credits in the THREE (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) are required.Credits in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
  2. ‘A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS: FIVE (5) credits at O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics plus passes at the A’ Level or equivalent in THREE (3) of the following relevant subjects: Chemistry, Zoology or Botany, Mathematics, Physics, Biology.
  3. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants must be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application. EITHER FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics OR FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level and experience in Meteorological applications.

 

Admission Requirements For BSc. FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Passes in three (3) SSSCE/WASSCE core subjects including (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science), plus credit passes in any three (3) elective subjects from the following: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Agricultural Science. Credits in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including: Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
  2. High National Diploma (HND) Applicants: HND applicants from a recognized polytechnic with Second Class (Upper Division) and (Lower Division) in the following Programmes: Food Technology, Food Processing, Food Production, Food and Beverage, Food Science, Nutrition, and Chemical Engineering may be admitted to Second or Third Year of the Programme after a successful entrance examination.   3. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants must be 25 years at the time of submitting the application.   1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Credit passes in three (3) SSSCE/WASSCE core subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science, plus credit passes in any three (3) Elective subjects including Mathematics. Credits in THREE (3) Electives Subjects including: Mathematics.
  2. Advance Level Applicants: FIVE (5) credit passes at GCE O’ Level including English Language, and Mathematics and Additional/Elective Mathematics plus THREE (3) passes at the A’ Level including Mathematics.
  3. Mature Applicants: Applicants must be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application. Admission Requirements For BSc. AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING. BSc. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING And BSc. MARINE ENGINEERING

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Credit Passes in THREE (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Credit passes in THREE (3)of the following Elective Subjects: Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following: Chemistry, Metalwork. Auto Mechanics, Applied Electricity, Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork. WASSCE/SSSCE applicants without Chemistry shall obtain at least B3 in Integrated Science.
  2. A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS: A’ Level Certificate applicants shall have at least credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.. Applicants shall have credits in English and Mathematics using either WASSCE/SSSCE or O’Level as substitute for WASSCE/SSCE Requirement  above.
  3. HND APPLICANTS: HND Certificate applicants shall have at least Second Class Honour in any Mechanical Engineering orientated programme, such as: Mechanical Engineering with any option, Agricultural Mechanization, Automobile Engineering, Assessment shall be based on the applicants’ transcripts. Applicants shall have credits in English and Mathematics using either WASSCE/SSSCE or O’Level as substitute for Requirement above
  4. MATURE APPLICANTS: Mature applicants must be at least twenty-five (25) years at the time of submitting the application. Mature applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience at the time of submitting the application. Mature applicants must have acquired WASSCE/SSSCE, A’ Level Certificate or an HND from a recognised institution.
  5. International and Other Applicants: International Baccalaureate applicants may apply with contents of programmes equivalent to the Ghanaian WASSCE/SSSCE or the Ghanaian A’ Level programmes. Admission Requirements For BSc. PHYSIOTHERAPY AND SPORTS SCIENCE

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Credit passes in THREE (3) core subjects including English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Credit passes in any THREE (3) elective subjects in Biology, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics. Short-listed Applicants must pass an interview.
  2. A’ LEVEL HOLDERS: Credit passes in FIVE (5) subjects at GCE Ordinary Level including English Language and Mathematics and Three (3) Credit passes at Advanced Level in Biology, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics.
  3. MATURE APPLICANTS: Mature students who have attained the age of 25 years or above at the time of application. And Applicants must have obtained credit passes (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credit passes (A1-C6/A-D) in three (3) elective subjects in Biology, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics at WASSCE/SSSCE. In addition, they must have worked for at least three (3) years. These applicants will be considered for admission into year one. OR Candidates who have relevant Diploma certificates in Sports and Exercise Science, Fitness Assessment, Physiotherapy and Orthotic Assistant, Coaching etc. and who must have worked for at least three (3) years will be considered for admission into year two.
  4. In addition to all of the above, candidates must be declared medically fit by the University Hospital and must undergo a physical fitness assessment and must pass a(n) written and/or oral interview conducted at the Department.

 

Admission Requirements For BSc. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Credit passes in THREE (3) Electives in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
  2. A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS: FIVE (5) O’ Level credits including Mathematics and English Language plus THREE (3) A’ Level passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
  3.  MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants should be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application. EITHER FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics OR WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes in THREE relevant Elective Subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. OR
  4. Applicants with Diploma/Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology with at least One (1) year post qualification experience shall be interviewed and successful Applicants placed in the SECOND YEAR.
  5. Mature Candidates with University Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (Top-Up) would be placed in the THIRD YEAR, whilst Candidates with Ministry of Health Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or HND in Science Laboratory Technology will be placed in SECOND YEAR. All Candidates must have TWO (2) YEARS Post-Qualification Experience, and must have passed an Interview.

  3. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants should be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application, and possess: EITHER FIVE (5) credits at the O’ level including English Language, Mathematics, Biology Chemistry, and Physics OR WASSCE/SSSCE credits in THREE Core Subjects (English Language, mathematics and Integrated Science) plus credits in THREE relevant Elective Subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS: Credits passes in THREE Elective Subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. (a) and (b) above may be followed with a 3-year clinical Programme for the MB. ChB degree and BDS degree respectively.

GRADUATES: Bachelor degree holders in the Life Sciences (Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, Herbal Medicine and Sports and Exercise Science,) will be placed in year two (2) of the programme whilst applicants with BSc. Nursing will be placed in year three (3) of the programme after a successful interview. Successful applicants will be exempted from some courses already studied.
  5. OTHER APPLICANTS: Mature applicants (aged 25 years and above) who are holders of diploma in Physiotherapy, Dental Assistantship, Medical Assistants, Laboratory Technician programme, Pharmacy Technician programme and the Registered General Nursing Diploma with at least Three (3) years post qualification experience and a good pass at the diploma levelmay be admitted to the first year of the programme after a successful interview. Such candidates may also be required to satisfy the University’s general requirements for admission to degree programmes

Admission Requirements For DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE (DVM)

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE: Credit passes in three (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science), plus credit passes in three (3) Elective Subjects thus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Elective Mathematics.
  2. Ordinary/Advance Level: Credits passes in five O’Level Subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, plus THREE passes in Advance Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.
  3. Diploma Holders: A Diploma from Pong-Tamale Veterinary School or any other recognized Veterinary Training Institutions, with three (3) years relevant Post qualification working experience. All diploma holding applicants must also satisfy the minimum University entry requirement for Admission.
  4. First Degree Holders: Applicants with BSc. Agriculture (Animal Science Option) or BSc. Biological Sciences not below 2nd Class lower division are eligible to apply for Admission. Such applicants will be admitted directly into 2nd yearof the Programme.

Admission Requirements For DOCTOR OF PHARMACY (PHARM D) TOP-UP (FEE-PAYING)

  1. A Degree in Pharmacy with at least THREE (3) years post-registration experience. An interview will be required. Duration of the Programme: Two (2) years.
  2. Mode of Delivery: Modular and sandwich. The taught courses will be delivered on-site with face-to-face interaction between Lecturer and Students on a schedule of an average of one week per month, coupled with E-Learning. The practical sections will take place at selected study sites.

  2. A’ LEVEL APPLICANTS: FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics, plus THREE (3) A’ Level passes, two of which shall be Economics and Geography, at a grade not below C. Preference will be given to a third A’ Level pass in Mathematics, Government or History. Candidates must also pass the General Paper. OR Diploma in Estate Management holders with at least FIVE (5) credits at O’ Level including: English and Mathematics.
  3. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants should be at least 25 years at the time of submitting the application. EITHER FIVE (5) credits at the O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics. DIPLOMA HOLDERS: Candidates with the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management or other relevant Diploma qualification from a recognized University or Polytechnic with Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 70% and above after a successful interview would be admitted into the second year of the Programme. Other Diploma holders with less than 70% as their CWA would be required to have three years’ work experience in the real estate industry and in addition pass an interview to be admitted into first year of the Programme.

  1. Prospective students should have a good first degree (First Class or Second Class [Upper Division]) in one of the pathway areas in Communication design or design-related programme. For MCOMM, an applicant in addition, must have a minimum of two years professional working experience, and further demonstrate the appropriate intellectual, creative and personal qualities to pursue the programme. Candidates must be able to demonstrate, through the submission and review of a portfolio and through an interview, a level of knowledge and competence appropriate to the demands of the programme, and to demonstrate the potential to benefit from that study.
  2. For MPhil, a candidate will be required to submit a 2-page summary of proposal that he/she intends to work on and for which a competent supervisor is readily available. MComm students will be required to produce a good professional portfolio and attend an interview.

Admission Requirements For Mphil Cultural and African Studies

  1. The Master of Philosophy is a modular programme of two years’ duration and divided into four modules. Participants/Students may therefore enroll on the programme and terminate their studies after completing one or two modules and obtain a certificate of participation or may continue to complete all four modules and obtain a Master of Philosophy degree.
  2. Participants who wish to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma, a Master of Art or Master of Philosophy degree must be holders of a good Bachelor degree (First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or their equivalent)) in Engineering, Science, Health and the Humanities.
  3. Applicants with Second Class (Lower Division) with some work experience may be admitted. Applicants who wish to earn only certificates of participation may be admitted with higher school certificate. All applicants will be admitted upon passing an interview.

  1. A good first degree, at least Second Class (Upper Division) or equivalent in Nutrition and/or Dietetics, Biochemistry, Food Science, Biological Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Home Economics and related fields and a masters’ degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics, Biochemistry, Food Science, Biological Sciences, Nursing, Home Economics and related fields.
  2. Students whose Masters degrees are not in Nutrition or Dietetics would be required to complete the first year taught courses of the MPhil programme before continuing with the PhD programme.
  3. The candidate must have a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) degree in Biochemistry and other life sciences or Chemistry on condition that the candidate will audit basic biology/biochemistry courses. In rare cases where the background is lacking, the student must enroll in undergraduate classes first in order to make up the deficiencies. Applicants for PhD Biochemistry must possess an MPhil in Biochemistry or related life sciences.
  4. All applicants must pass an entry admissions interview.
