New GES Academic Calendar For Basic Schools In Ghana

The Ghana Education Service has changed the academic calendar for basic schools once again. This comes after consultation with stakeholders who expressed displeasure about the Semester based academic calendar released by GES.

The GES Academic calendar for basic schools has therefore been reverted to the Trimester system consisting of three terms as it used to be.

This is as announced by GES in a release signed by GES Press Secretary, Felix A. Baidoo, The release reads as follows:

About New GES Academic Calendar For Basic Schools In Ghana

It may be recalled that the Ministerial Committee on School Calendar issued a calendar for the current academic year indicating that Kindergarten to Junior High School was to be based on the Semester system.

Following the directives to commence the Semester system, the Ministry has received representation from a section of the public and key educational stakeholders to re-instate the Trimester system.

After further consultation on the issue, the Honourable Minister for Education has directed that the calendar for Kindergarten to Junior High School for the current academic year should revert to the Trimester system. Consequently, the dates for the various school terms for Kindergarten to Junior High School are as follows:

GES Academic Calendar For Basic Schools 1st TERM

1st Term Academic Calendar is as follows:

1. 18th January to 14th April, 2022 (12 Weeks)
2. 15th April to 9th May, 2022 (Vacation)

GES Academic Calendar For Basic Schools 2nd TERM

2nd Term Academic Calendar is as follows:

1. 10th May to 18th August 2022 (14 Weeks)
2. 19th August to 12th September, 2022 (Vacation)

GES Academic Calendar For Basic Schools 3rd TERM

3rd Term Academic Calendar is as follows:

1. 13th September to 22nd December, 2022 (14 Weeks
