About The Ghana Armed Forces

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) was formed in 1957 after Ghana’s independence. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) consists of the Ghana Army , Ghana Navy , and Ghana Air Force. Ministry of Defence headed by the Chief of Defence Staff heads and supervises the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The President of Ghana doubles as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces is the and the supreme military commander of the President’s Own Guard Regiment (POGR) and of the Border Guard Unit (BGU).

 

About The Ghana Army

The Ghana Army (GA) is the ground warfare military branch of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The Ghana Army has a Northern Command headquartered in Kumasi and the Southern Command with headquartered in Accra. In March 2000 these two commands were formed after a restructuring. The Ghana Army Previously had three brigades: 1st Infantry Brigade headquartered in Teshie, the 2nd Infantry Brigade headquartered in Kumasi and Support Services Brigade headquartered in Burma Camp.

There are 6 Infantry Battalions of the Ghana Regiment. The 3rd Battalion of Infantry, 4th Battalion of Infantry and 6th Battalion of Infantry are in the Northern Command while the 1st Battalion of Infantry, 2nd Battalion of Infantry and 5th Battalion of Infantry are in the Southern Command.

There are 2 Airborne companies attached to Northern Command. A dedicated Battalion in charge of state security comprising of 64 Infantry Regiment. There is also a Training Battalion, a Staff College, 2 Armoured reconnaissance squadrons of the Reconnaissance Armoured Regiment, a Signals Regiment, 2 Engineer Regiments, an artillery regiment and a Logistics Group.

 

The Armed Forces commits a large amount of its armed forces to peacekeeping operations conducted in Africa and across the world as United Nations peacekeeping forces.

The first Force Commander of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo who was commander from July 1990 to September 1990 was a Ghana armed forces member.

The Ghana Armed Forces peacekeepers perform  duties such as military patrols (patrolling), provosts (military police), electoral observers, bomb disposal units and clearance divers and ceasefire monitors humanitarian aid workers.

 

About The Ghana Air Force

The Ghana Air Force (GHF) is the aerial warfare branch of the Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF). The Ghana Air Force)started operations on July 24 1959 .  The Ghana Air Force has its headquarters in Burma camp Accra, and operates from Accra , Tamale , Sekondi-Takoradi, and Kumasi .

 

The Ghana Air Force provides Air Transport and Offensive Air Support to the Ghana Armed Forces and protect the territorial air space of Ghana. The Ghana Air Force also maintains Fighter Ground Attack capability and provide Close Air Support during operation, provides transport support to the Ghana Armed Forces. provides surveillance over the air space of Ghana and over the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), provides liaison and recce flight capability., provides VIP flight capability, provides transport support for civilians as government directs and provides medical evacuation and air rescue assistance.

 

About The Ghana Navy

The Ghana Navy (GN) is the naval warfare military branch of the Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF).

The Ghana Navy’s provides defence of Ghana and its territorial waters. It is also resupplies Ghana Army peacekeepers in Africa. The Ghana Navy is organized into an Eastern command, headquartered at Tema, and a Western command headquartered at Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Ghana Navy monitors and controls fishing activities in Ghana’s deep waters, Ghana’s Maritime Presence in the West African Waters and Naval Support, Patrol and Control of Ghana’s Territorial Waters and Economic Zone

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment  Eligibility

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment applicants are to have the following eligibility requirements;

  1. Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.
  2. Should be of good character.
  3. Must Not be less than 18 years and not more than 26 years by 06 August  for Regular Commission, and not more than 30 years by 27 February  for Short Service Commission.
  4. Should be medically fit by Ghana Armed Forces standard.
  5. Must Not be bonded.
  6. Must Not be married (for Regular Officer Candidates only).
  7. Should be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6”) for males and 1.60m (5’4”) for females.
  8. For Military Police; the minimum height for male applicants should be 1.75m (5`9“) and 1.70m (5’ 7”) for females and Must have the following:
  9. (1) BECE certification with Six (6) Passes at BECE including English and Mathematics.
  10. (2) WASSCE certification with Six (6) Credits (not less than C6) including Core English and Core Mathematics.
  11. OR SSSCE certification with Six (6) Credits (not less than D) including Core English and Core Mathematics.
  12. OR GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Levels certification with Five (5) Credits (not less than 6) including English and Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level and not less than D in three subjects and General Paper at GCE ‘A’ Level.

  1. Bachelor of Law, LLB.
  2. Barrister at Law (BL) certificate.
  3. Must have done Pupillage and 3 years Post Call working experience.

 

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment As MEDICAL Officer (Medical Services)

a. Medical Specialist Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicant should have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution plus a relevant post-graduate qualification to the level of Fellowship or its equivalent from an accredited College. Applicants must have permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana and must not be more than 40 years of age by 27 February .

 

b. Medical Officer and Dental Surgeon Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicant should have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited University/Institution. Must have permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana. At least one (1) year working experience after housemanship in a recognized health facility and must not be more than 35 years of age by 27 February .

 

c. Pharmacist Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicant should have Bachelor/Doctor of Pharmacy (BPharm/PharmD) from an accredited University/Institution. Applicant must have at least two (2) years working experience as a Pharmacist in an accredited health facility and must be registered with the Pharmacy Council of Ghana. Must not be more than 30 years of age by 27 February .

 

d. Physician Assistant (Medical) Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicant should have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in Physician Assistantship or its equivalent. Must have completed the mandatory clinical rotation and practised for at least three (3) years post permanent registration. Applicants with First Degree not below Second Class Lower in Physician Assistantship plus Advanced Diploma in Community Medicine and Health who have worked for at least two (2) years could also apply. Applicants must have permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana and must not be more than 33 years of age by 27 February .

 

e. Nursing/Health Tutor Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should have MPhil in Nursing/Midwifery or MSc/MA in Nursing/Midwifery with postgraduate Diploma/Certificate in Education. Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. At least one (1) year teaching experience in an accredited Nursing/Midwifery institution is required and must not be more than 35 years of age by 27 February .

 

f. Specialized Nurses Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following nursing specialties; Critical Care, Emergency Care, ENT, Ophthalmic, Peri-operative Paediatrics, and Dialysis. At least two (2) years working experience post permanent registration in a recognized health facility is required. Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and must not be more than 33 years of age by 27 February .

 

g. Midwifery Officer Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in Midwifery. Must have completed the mandatory clinical rotation and have practiced for at least three (3) years post permanent registration. Applicants with Registered Midwifery (RM) certificate in addition to the First Degree in Midwifery must have practised for two (2) years post permanent registration. All applicants should not be more than 33 years of age by 27 February  and must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

 

h. Certified Registered Anaesthetist Recruitment.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in Anaesthesia and at least three (3) years work experience in an accredited health facility. Applicants with a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in Anaesthesia plus Advanced Diploma in Nurse Anaesthesia and at least two (2) years working experience in an accredited health facility are eligible to apply. All must be registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana and must not be more than 33 years of age by 27 February .

 

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment As Chaplain.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should be and have the following:

  1. First Degree not below Second Class Lower (BA) in Theology or Religion from a recognised University/Theological Seminary/College.
  2. An ordained Minister of the Methodist, Presbyterian, Evangelical Presbyterian, SDA and the Church of Pentecost and be recommended for commissioning into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of the Church.
  3. A minimum of four (4) years pastoral working and probation/internship experience including two (2) years post ordination service in the pastoral field.
  4. Ability to speak English and at least one of the main Ghanaian languages fluently.
  5. Must not be more than 35years of age by 27 February .

 

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment As Imam .

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should be and have the following:

  1. First Degree not below Second Class Lower in Islamic Theology (Religion) from a recognized University, Islamic Institution or College.
  2. An Alim Phedeen (Islamic Theologian).
  3. Fluent in both spoken Arabic and English Languages.
  4. Ability to read and write good Arabic and English Languages.
  5. Practised as Imam for four (4) years and be recognized by a recognised Islamic Religious Institution/Body in Ghana.
  6. Recommended for commission into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of a recognized Islamic body in Ghana and must not be more than 35 years of age by 27 February .

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants should not be more than 30 years of age by 27 February  and must have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower and a Masters Degree from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following:

  1. Eligible Applicants should Acquire a scratch card at FIFTY GHANA CEDIS (GH₵50.00) from the following designated Post Offices:
  2. Then gently scratch gently to reveal the “PIN” code. The scratch card can be used for three times until a record is successfully submitted.
  3. Afterwards Log on to the recruitment portal at http://www.gafrecruitment.com with any of the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome.
  4. Then read through the entry requirements thoroughly.
  5. Afterwards Click on the Apply Now Tab to open the applicant authentication page.
  6. Then Enter your card Serial Number, PIN code and select your preferred Arm of Service, type of commission and click “Submit”.
  7. Afterwards Enter your personal details and take note of the following from pages 1 to 3:
  8. Page 1: Select your desired vacancy and provide all other required data.
