UEW Admission Minimum Requirements For Bachelor, Diploma, Technical And Mature Applicants Programmes

Here are the official UEW Admission Minimum Entry Requirements For Bachelor Programmes, Diploma Programmes, Technical Programmes And Mature Applicants for the academic year.

 

These requirements are to be met in addition to the other programme-specific requirements.

 

1. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR PROGRAMMES

1. Senior High School (SHS) Certificate Holders

  1. Must have at least, six (6) WASSCE passes including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as
  2. Three (3) Electives in relevant subjects with a total aggregate of 36 or better.
  3. Must also satisfy Special Programme requirement(s) for programme(s) chosen.

 

2. School Certificate/GCE Holders

  1. Five (5) credits at GCE “O” Level, including English Language and Mathematics as well as
  2. Two (2) “A” Level passes other than General Paper in relevant subjects

 

3. Diploma Holders

  1. Must possess a Higher National Diploma or its equivalence from previous field or area of study.
  2. Full-Time applicants may pass an interview.

 

2. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

 

1. Diploma in Basic Education

 

  1. WASSCE Entry Requirement; Applicants must have Credit pass (A1-C6) in FIVE (5) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects including English Language and Mathematics, and TWO (2) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme chosen.
  2. SSSCE Entry Requirement; Applicants must have Credits (A-D) in FIVE (5) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and TWO (2) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme chosen.

 

 

2. Other Diploma Programmes Entry Requirement

 

  1. WASSCE Entry Requirement; i) Six passes (A1 – D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and ii) Must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.
  2. SSSCE Entry Requirement; i) Six passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and ii) At least three (3) of the passes must be relevant to the area of specialization.

 

 

 

3. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR TECHNICAL PROGRAMMES

 

a. B.Sc. MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

 

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 

Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

 

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and integrated science, and three elective subjects from the following: Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, and Welding.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following:  Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, Welding
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of a. Motor Vehicle Technicians (MVT) Part III certificate OR b. Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) Part III certificate. All part III applicants must pass an interview
  5. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Agriculture Engineering with specialty in any one of the following options: a. Automotive Mechanics b. Plant c. Production d. Refrigeration e. Agricultural Mechanization
  6. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications: Motor Vehicle Technician Part II, Mechanical Technician Part II, Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering, Teachers’ Diploma A (Technical Option), WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct, National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) Certificate with credit passes in SIX (6) subjects comprising THREE (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science) and THREE (3) elective subjects in relevant area.
  7. Please Note the following: 1. All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT) All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode.

 

 

 

b. B.SC. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

 

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 

Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

 

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and integrated science, and three elective subjects from the following: Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, and Welding.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following:  Automotive Mechanics, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, Welding.
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.

c. B.SC. ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (REGULAR/DISTANCE)

 

Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

 

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and Integrated Science, and three elective subjects from the following: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Science, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, Welding.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following:  Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Science, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity, Electronics, Metalwork, Welding.
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Electrical Engineering Technicians (EET) Part III certificate All EET Part III applicants must pass an interview
  5. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Electrical/Electronics with specialty in any one of the following options:a. Power b. Telecommunication. Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100
  6. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications i. Electrical Engineering Technician Part II OR ii. Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Electrical Engineering OR iii. Electrical Installation Work, Course C OR iv. Teachers Certificates A (Technical Option) OR v. WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age
  7. Please Note the following: 1. All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT) 2. All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode

 

 

 

d. B.SC. CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

 

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 

Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

 

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and Integrated Science, and three elective subjects from the following: Building Construction, Wood work, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following: Building Construction, Wood work, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Applied Electricity.
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS – Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Construction Technician Part III certificate
  5. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Building Construction or Civil Engineering.. Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100
  6. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications i. Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Block work and Concreting OR ii. Diploma in Basic Education (Colleges of Education) OR iii. Teachers Certificates A (Technical Option) OR iv. WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age.
  7. Please Note the following: 1. All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT) 2. All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode

 

 

e. B.Sc. WOOD TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

 

(REGULAR AND DISTANCE)

 

Applicants must satisfy any one of the following:

 

  1. WASSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have grade A1-C6 in three (3) core subjects which are English, Core mathematics and Integrated Science, and three elective subjects from the following: Wood work, Furniture Design, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
  2. SSSCE HOLDERS – Applicants must have Grade D or better in three core subjects which are: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, and three (3) Electives from the following:  Wood work, Furniture Design, Elective Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing.
  3. GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS–Applicants must have at least grade D or better in three Science subjects. They must also have credit passes (grade 6) in five (5) subjects in GCE ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics and Science.
  4. PART III HOLDERS: Applicants must be holders of Construction Technician Part III certificate.
  5. All part III applicants must pass an interview
  6. HND HOLDERS: Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Wood work Technology.. Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100
  7. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications. i. Advanced City and Guilds Certificate in Wood work OR ii. Diploma in Basic Education (Colleges of Education) OR iii. Teachers Certificates A (Technical Option) OR iv. WASSCE OR SSSCE holders who do not qualify for direct entry but are 25 years of age.

 

Please Note the following:

  1. All mature applicants must pass an entrance examination comprising a Subject Area Test (SAT) and a General Aptitude Test (GAT)
  2. All applicants must indicate whether they are opting for REGULAR or DISTANCE Mode
  3. TVET Entry Requirements (MATURE) Applicants must have passed in three (3) in their respective TVET area and two core subjects (NAPTEX) including English and Mathematics, Mechanical Technology,  Construction Technology, Automotive Technology, Electrical and Electronics Technology, Wood Technology, Fashion Technology, Catering and Hospitality Technology

 

 

4. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MATURE APPLICANTS

  1. Must be at least, 25 years by September 1, 2020.
  2. Should have a minimum of a GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate/ DBS or RSA certificate.
  3. Must pass the UEW Entrance Exam in General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Subject Area Test (SAT)

 

 

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR UEW ADMISSION

  1. Obtain an Application Voucher from the Ghana Post Company Limited or from any of the following Banks/Sources: GCB Bank, Agric. Development Bank (ADB), Ecobank, Zenith Bank, Unibank, Fidelity Bank, Republic Bank and VISA Credit/Debit Card. International Students should use VISA card.
  2. Visit the University’s website at www.uew.edu.gh. Click on Admissions, and select Apply Online >>>. Log in with your Voucher Serial Number and PIN, fill an appropriate application form and submit online.

 

Cost of Online Application Forms (Bachelor’s degree and Diploma programmes)

 

  1. Direct Applicants                             – GH¢200.00
  2. Mature Applicants                           – GH¢300.00
  3. All Post-Diploma Applicants          – GH¢200.00
  4. International Applicants                 – $100.00

 

Notes:

 

  1. Fee-paying facility is available to applicants who do not meet the competitive selection cut-offs but satisfy the minimum university requirements.
  2. Special Education applicants should pass the entrance examination in their second programme before selection.
  3. Successful applicants of Ghanaian Language would be given the opportunity to offer a second subject in English/French/Linguistics/German.
  4. Physical Education and Sports Coaching applicants should not be more than Forty (40) and Fifty (50) years respectively.
  5. Submitting an application with supporting documents is the first step in the selection process. Applicants are entreated to study the admissions brochure carefully before completing an application.
  6. All certificates and results other than those from the West African Examinations Council, the Universities and Polytechnics in Ghana and institutions accredited by the National Accreditation Board should be cleared with the National Accreditation Board and the evaluation report submitted to the University. c) General Aptitude Test for all Mature Candidates. Saturday, June 7 (Paper starts at 8:00)
