GES Academic Calendar For KG, Primary, JHS, SHS And Tertiary Schools

The Government has officially released Academic Calendar for all students in the Junior High Schools (JHS), Senior High Schools (SHS) and Tertiary Institutions (Universities, colleges of education, nursing training colleges etc). This was made known state address on the reopening of schools. Afterwards, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has also released a new academic calendar for all Junior High Schools (JHS), Senior High Schools (SHS) and Tertiary Institutions in Ghana. About The GES Academic Calendar

The Ministry of Education, Ghana has released the scheduled 2021 / 2022 academic calendar for the various levels of Ghana’s Education Sector. The President stated that from 15th January 2021, children in kindergarten, primary and Junior High school in both private and public schools will go back to school.

He further said all SHS 1 students will start classes from 10th March 2021. It is to be noted that all SHS 1 students will embark on a single-track academic calendar. SHS 2 and SHS 3 students will however return to school from 18th January 2021.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stressed that SHS 3 students in all schools, like SHS 1 students, will no longer run the double track system.

According to him, the expansion of infrastructure at the various Senior High Schools over the last three (3) years has brought about this favorable situation. However, the double track system will still be applicable to SHS 2 students in schools that are employing it. Students in the Universities and other tertiary institutions are to be in school from Saturday, 9th January 2021.

GES SHS Academic Calendar

GES SHS Form 2 Gold Track & SHS Form 1 Academic Calendar

Both Form 2 Gold Track and Form 1 students will reopen school at the same time. Note that these category of students will attend school for 2 semesters only.

GES 1st Semester (Term): Form 2 Gold Track & SHS Form 1 Academic Calendar

1. Form 2 Gold Track & SHS 1 students are expected to go to school on March 10, 2021. Students will spend 4 months for the 1st semester in school.
2. According to GES, January & February 2021 will be used to plan, prepare and admit Junior High School students who recently competed school.
3. The 1st Semester will end on 25th June, 2021 for students to vacate on 26th June 2021 and resume on 31st August, 2021.

GES 2nd Semester (Term): Form 2 Gold Track & SHS Form 1 Academic Calendar

1. This semester is set to begin on 1st September, 2021 with both Form 2 Gold Track & SHS 1 students reporting to school.
2. There will be no mid-semester break for these students as school will vacate on 18th December, 2020 to mark the end of the academic year.
3. Both Form 2 Gold Track & SHS 1 students will receive a total of One Thousand, Four Hundred & Forty (1,440) contact hours with their facilitators.
4. In all, these students will spend a combined total of 8 months in school for both 1st & 2nd Semester.

GES JHS Academic Calendar

GES 1st Semester Academic Calendar For JHS 1, JHS 2 & JHS 3 Students

1. Form 1, 2 & 3 Junior High Students will resume school on 15th January, 2021.
2. These students will spend nearly 5 months in school.
3. Thus; from 18th January, 2021 – 11th June, 2021. However, they will be given a 4-days midterm break which will start from March 15, 2021 and end March 19, 2021.
4. It is to be noted that vacation for JHS 1, 2 & 3 students will begin June 12, 2021 and students will be back to school on July 5, 2021.

GES 2nd Semester Academic Calendar For JHS 1 & JHS 2 Students

1. Form 1 & 2 Junior High Students will resume school for the 2nd semester of school on 6th July, 2021. These students will spend over 5 months in school.
2. Thus; from 6th July, 2021 – 7th December, 2021. However, they will be given a 4-days midterm break which will start from September 6, 2021 and end September 10, 2021.
3. It is to be noted that vacation for JHS 1 & 2 students will begin December 8, 2021 and students will be back to school in January 2022.

GES 2nd Semester Academic Calendar For JHS 3 Students

1. Unlike JHS 1 & 2 students who will go on vacation, JHS 3 students will be ending their academic year as there will be no vacation for them. This is due to the fact that they will be writing their BECE examination.
2. JHS 3 students will report to school for the 2nd Semester of school on July 6, 2021 till the month of November where they will write their BECE examination that will be conducted by WAEC.
3. It is to be noted that there will be no vacation for these set of students until they have written their last paper.

GES Primary / Basic School Academic Calendar

GES Primary 1st Term 2021 Primary School Academic Calendar

1. Primary schools in Ghana will reopen school on 18th January, 2021 till 16th April, 2021.
2. Students in the Primary school will go on vacation on April 17, 2021 and resume on 3rd May, 2021.
3. Parents/Guardians are to make sure that their wards are in school on May 4, 2021 to begin their 2nd semester academic activities.

GES Primary 2nd Term Calendar

1. Students are expected to return to school following their vacation on April 7, 2021 to begin the 2nd semester on May 4, 2021.
2. On August 6, 2021, schools will break and subsequently vacate for Primary schools in the country on 7th August, 2021 and resume on September 5, 2021 for 3rd term.
3. Parents/Guardians and teachers are to note that there will be no mid-term break for pupil of Primary school until such time when they vacate.

GES Primary 3rd Term Calendar

1. 3rd term for all Primary schools in Ghana will begin on September 6, 2021 and break on 10th December, 2021. Vacation of school will take place on 11th December, 2021.
2. The next academic year is set to begin somewhere in January 2022. In due time, the Ghana Education Service will communicate the specific date to the general public.

GES KG Academic Calendar

1. Both KG and Primary schools will run a three term semester for the academic year.

GES KG 1st Term Academic Calendar

1. Kindergarten pupils will according to the 2021 academic calendar released by the Ghana education Service, resume school for their 1st term session on January 18, 2021.
2. These pupil will stay in school till April 16, 2021. They will vacate on 17th April, 2021 and resume school again on May 3, 2021.

GES KG 2nd Term Calendar

1. It is expected of all Kindergarten pupils to return to school for the 2nd semester of their 2021/2022 academic year on May 4, 2021.
2. Pupils are expected to break on August 6, 2021 and vacate on 7th August 2021. It is to be noted that school will reopen for pupils of kindergarten on 5th September, 2021.
3. Parents/Guardians are entreated to make sure that their wards are in school by September 6, 2021 for them to begin their 3rd term academic duties.

GES KG 3rd Term Academic Calendar

1. For the 3rd term, kindergarten pupil will report to school on 6th September 2021 and break on December 10, 2021.
2. Vacation is scheduled for 11th December 2021 whiles they resume school somewhere in January 2022.
