Details: Electoral Commission To Organise Special Registration Exercise For Students

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will soon roll out a special programme under the mass voters registration exercise to register eligible students in various Senior High Schools across the country.

 

Dr. Serebour Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the Commission announcing this said a date for the special registration exercise would be communicated at the appropriate time. The Director of Electoral Services in an interview with the Daily Graphic said “We are making arrangements to visit SHSs across the country to register eligible Ghanaians there”

Electoral Commission To Organise Special Registration Exercise For Students

 

Explaining how the exercise would be conducted, Dr. Serebour Quarcoo said the Electoral Commission (EC) officials would tour the schools on specific days to register the qualified final year students currently at school

 

“There will not be permanent registration centres there; what we will do is that our officials will go to the schools and based on the numbers, register the people and leave” he added.

 

The Dialy Graphic in the interview monitored by Avenuegh.com asked Dr. Serebour Quarcoo whether or not the EC would register students on SHS compounds,

 

Dr. Serebour Quarcoo when asked by the Daily Graphic whether or not the EC would register students on SHS compounds, explained that the Commission had decided to do special registration on SHS compounds in order not to disenfranchise any eligible student.

 

“The students will get the chance to register and get their names on the electoral roll when our officials visit the schools. But it must be noted that those centres will not be permanent” he stressed.

The EC director entreated the students to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols at the temporal registration centres.
