Understanding The CSSPS Placement System

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), is a system introduced by the Ghana Education Service (GES) not long ago to place qualified Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) graduates into second cycle institutions namely the Senior High School (SHS) and the Technical and Vocational Institutes.

BECE graduates are therefore to check for the Senior High School (SHS) they have been placed in by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

How The CSSPS Automatic Placement System Works

The automatic placement system of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) automatically places students into one of the five Secondary schools which they chose during the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) registration process. Strictly Based on the students’ performance.

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) does the placement of the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) graduates into Senior High Schools by collecting data of all the students who took part in the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) Exam, finds the aggregate of their grades, ranks them and determines which of the five chosen schools they qualify for.

The aggregate is calculated from 6 BECE subjects taken during the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) namely English, Mathematics, Social Studies and any best two elective subjects.

This placement is then done based on the programs chosen by the students during the BECE registration process, the cut off grades of the chosen programs, vacancies in the various Senior High Schools and the performance of students in the Exams

However not all candidates are placed automatically under the CSSPS automatic placement system. Students who did not get any of the five selected schools during the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) registration process due to inadequate performance or not meeting the other factors stated above are to do a Self Placement”.
