The Interview

Public Relations Officer of the Scheme, Armstrong Esaah, who made this known in an interview with Citi News urged the service personnel to adhere to all safety precautions upon resumption of work.

“Their mandatory leave expired on the 30th of last month and so they are to resume work on Monday, May 4, 2020. We have actually reminded them (NSP) to return to their various user agencies under strict instructions of the user agency and so once they go back to the agencies, they will have to adhere to the precautionary measures that their respective companies have put in place.”

The directive is also for all newly posted nurses who were due to start national service in April 2020 but were made to take the month of April 2020 as their terminal leave.

Payment Of April Allowances

Mr. Esaah assured the personnel that they will receive their allowances for the month of April.

“They are going to be paid and if some of them have not received their April allowances then, I’m sure from next week, they will receive their allowances. It was a paid leave and they are going to have their allowances intact,” he added.

Deputy Director for the National Service Scheme, Gifty Oware Aboagye told GhanaWeb in a telephone conversation the Scheme will release an official statement later in the day to alert all service personnel.

She denied telling any media house otherwise.

The Official Release By NSS

Following the exhaustion of the one-month mandatory paid-leave granted to all national service personnel which took effect from March 26, 2020, to April 30, 2020, and in compliance with the Government of Ghana precautionary directives in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Management of the National Service Scheme (NSS), today, May 03, 2020, directs all national service personnel to resume their national service duty with their respective user agencies effective Monday, May 04, 2020.

However, national service personnel, especially those serving with private user agencies are to note that reporting to work and attendance are contingent on internal arrangements instituted by their user agencies. National Service Personnel are thus advised to laise with the Human Resource department or heads of the organization for further internal directives.

Moreover, in keeping with the Government of Ghana and local authorities directives aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19, all national service personnel are mandated to wear a face mask and comply with all other laid-down precautionary measures and workplace protocols as they resume work. The Management of NSS, therefore, appeals passionately to all user agencies to as much as possible operationalise a shift system to reduce the frequency of human contact.

Finally, Management of the Scheme wishes to express its confound gratitude to all user agencies and national service personnel for their cooperation and support in the face of this challenging times.
